The Bannockburn House Musketball Impact.
An insider's view of a lost failed assassination attempt of Bonnie Prince Charlie?
Apologies….
Sorry for the delayed Friday post but I was in deepest darkest Huntly and the wifi would simply not work. There were however, lots of ticks for company plus some not bad archaeology and I will update you all on my busman’s holiday in due course!
As you will have spotted Bannockburn House was in the news over a newly discovered musket ball impact. This was linked to failed assassination attempt on Bonnie Prince Charlie in January 1746. All of this happened during the last ever siege of Stirling Castle and before the Battle of Falkirk.
I played a very small part in confirming that it was a musket ball impact and here is a video I made of the discovery. This all happened during the election so we had to wait. By the time everyone was ready for the formal photo-shoot I was in Huntly so missed out on the formal photography…but you all know what I look like!
Anyway here is my rather amateur film of the musket ball’s location.
